The Black Keys - Live at the 9:30 Club - 2008-5-12

I've been on a bit of a twosome kick lately. Jack White and the White Stripes have had my eyes and ears in a constant state of awe with their recent documentary Under Great White Northern Lights and the Black Keys, well, they never really leave my rotation. The Black Keys just recently announced a tour in support of their next record, Brothers, and released a single "Tighten Up" (found at the end of this post for download). For tour and album info, check out The Black Keys website.

Model Stranger "Dreams & Bones" Album Teaser

video

Saturday night I attended a CD listening party for Chicago band Model Stranger at the Elbo Room in Chicago's Lakeview area. Lot's of people came out to voice support, drink and of course, listen to the new record, Dreams & Bones, available April 24th to those at the CD release and available online April 26th. We had a chance to listen to the new record twice and watch the above video. The video is a behind the scenes look into the making of the record and really gives you a sense of how hard these dudes work. The new record is a leap in the right direction for this power trio.

Make sure to watch the bit after the credits, Kevin...

They will be embarking on a 16 shows in 21 days tour (the last 15 shows being consecutive nights) starting April 3rd in Macomb, IL, heads West and then ends at the official album release at The Cubby Bear in Chicago on April 24th.

Music!

Hello everyone! I've been in and out lately and just not dedicated, I'm really going to turn that around. It's been a combo of being busy in my personal life and not really coming across music I've deemed worthy to share with your ears. I've got a quick post (3 shows) for you guys today and some other stuff for you.

First, the new White Stripes documentary is out of control amazing. I picked up the blu-ray yesterday and have since watched it 2.5 times. Jack and Meg have a connection, something binding them together. Director Emmett Maloy did a fantastic job of grasping that unexplainable connection. If you even like the White Stripes or Jack White a little bit, go grab it.

------------------------------------------------------------------

New music for you all! I've been listening to new stuff by some really great acts. The first group I have for you guys is a Brooklyn based band that goes by the name of The Gentlemen's Bet. Their latest effort Big Gunpowder Falls is a genre kaleidoscope that mixes everything from Sting records like Ten Summoners Tales and Mercury Rising (great f*cking records) to The Decemberists The Hazards of Love. I've attached The Gentlemen's Bet album closing track "Bulldoze Bill" for your enjoyment.
Cool fact - Big Gunpowder Falls was mastered by Alan Douches, he's worked on My Morning Jacket stuff before.

Next up is the Champaign-Urbana, IL based band Santah. Their 10 track LP doesn't have a bad song on it, fans of Grizzly Bears' Veckatimest and the less heavy sides of Kings of Leon will find White Noise Bed to be a treat. I've included the huge sounding "Overgrown."

Cool fact - White Noise Bed was recorded in the now deceased ex-Wilco man, Jay Bennetts' recording studio Pieholden Studios. Parts of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot were recorded there.

Best of Bonnaroo

So Bonnaroo just sent this out. It's part of the "Music for Action" campaign that can be checked out here. Pretty good compilation I must say (with some exceptions). Our best band are included on the set playing The Velvet Underground penned "Oh Sweet Nuthin'" in excellent soundboard quality.

I did you guys a favor and deleted the OAR track. You're welcome.

New Black Keys Record - May 18th

Yes. These guys are busy, like, Jack White busy.

From Pitchfork.com

Between their hip-hop collaboration with Damon Dash, BlakRoc, Dan Auerbach's solo album, and Patrick Carney's Drummer project, it sure seemed like the two men of the Black Keys were putting their main band on hold for the time being. Well, they aren't. On May 18, Nonesuch will release Brothers, the sixth Black Keys album.

Mostly recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals studios in Alabama and mostly produced by Auerbach and Carney themselves, Brothers features one song ("Tighten Up") produced by Danger Mouse, who helmed the last Black Keys album, Attack and Release.

The Black Keys plan to tour this summer, though only a few dates have been announced so far, including performances as Bonnaroo and Central Park Summerstage.

Brothers:

01 Everlasting Light
02 Next Girl
03 Tighten Up
04 Howlin' for You
05 She's Long Gone
06 Black Mud
07 The Only One
08 Too Afraid to Love You
09 Ten Cent Pistol
